"I won't let you bring me back/ bring me back down in the dumps," goes one of the gleaming, insistent choruses Walk the Moon stomp out on Talking is Hard. What counteracts that depressive tug downward is the buoyant bliss of pop: Songs like "Down in the Dumps" and "Shut Up and Dance" leaven indie melancholy with buzzing, glistening beats and cascading harmonies. Highlights: the twinkling come-on "Sidekick" and the synth washes and clean birdsong guitars of "Aquaman," the band's neatest bulls-eye on the glowing sound of their '80s forebears.
