At The End Of This War
Label: Roadrunner Records
With Disturbed singer David Draiman producing, Florida's once theoretically Metallica-like Trivium settle on this sixth album for toe-the-line metalcore loaded with pained, bullying, gut-bust-barked interruptions. Two cuts briefly start as ballads: Apparent protest "At the End of This War" and "Wake (The End Is Nigh)," which momentarily suggests Queensryche on a Cairo junket. "Villainy Thrives," about good people losing out to rapists and murderers, gives its pessimism a tangible beat. But the band saves any bashes where they might have fun -- e.g., a Misfits cover -- for Special Edition cuts.
