Dead and Gone
Label: Roadrunner Records
Having gone the full-on metalcore route on 2013’s Vengeance Falls, the Florida quasi-thrashers opt for singing over screaming on their Ice Age-oriented seventh album, opening with an instrumental composed by black metal snowman Ihsahn of Emperor before moving into old-school dungeons-and-dragons metal. But ‘90s Metallica is forever their benchmark (check “Dead and Gone” and “Until the World Goes Cold”), now with ‘90s grunge (“The Ghost That’s Haunting You,” “Beneath the Sun”) on the side. If only tracks like “The Thing That’s Killing Me” that start out riffing fast and pushy stayed that way.
