She Ain't Got The Beat
Label: Hightone Records
Raw and rocking, The Blasters blasted their way out of Downey, Calif., and came up through the ranks of the L.A. punk scene. Fronted by brothers Dave and Phil Alvin, The Blasters' brand of high-octane rockabilly was superbly captured on their 1980 debut, American Music. While the Stray Cats lapped The Blasters singing kitty fluff, The Blasters sang gritty, authentic ear-sounding songs about unrequited love ("Marie Marie"), rebelling against society ("I Don't Want To") and rejection ("She Ain't Got the Beat"). Long out of print, this classic was re-issued in 1997 with seven added tracks that are just as wild and frenzied as the original release.
