Familiars by The Antlers

The Antlers' third album is called Familiars, which could either be referring to the alchemical witchcraft term for one's "spirit animal" or the nostalgic glow of their music. It begins with the twinkling "Palace," the best song they've ever done, a sort of classic Phil Collins ballad filtered through Arcade Fire's orchestral flair. It's nice to see these guys achieving stratospheric prettiness, but even nicer to hear the martial trumpets that adorn the entire record with Jon Hassell-esque disquietude.
