The Beat Of Brazil
Label: Craft Recordings
Tom Jobim leads Sergio Mendes' band again, going for a sound that isn't that different from his own instrumental albums from the 1960s. That said, Jobim's charts here are leaner and less lush than the orchestrations on his solo albums (which were usually supplied by Claus Ogerman). Even though the set is really about the songs, Mendes gets to show off some of his propulsive piano playing. Check out such adventurous tracks as "Coisa No. 2" and "Neurotico."
