Label: Puscifer Entertainment
Puscifer has long served as a mirror for Maynard James Keenan’s introspective side. Money Shot is no exception. Outside of the growling title track, the music is awash in barren reverb, quietly swirling rhythms and electronic tones as solemn as church bells. A few cuts, including “Galileo” and “The Arsonist,” feel like new age choral music filtered through 4AD-style ethereal wave. On “Life of Brian (Apparently You Haven’t Seen),” Keenan contorts this same idea into a kind of 21st century ambient-meet-R&B fusion. The song is ambitious, striking and warrants repeated spins to fully sink in.
