Maybe one of the reasons the Who's 1980s output was often lacking is that Pete Townshend's solo albums often contained his best songs from the period. Townshend's earlier solo work is highly recommended, but this is the first album to really cross over with the public. The New Wave single "Let My Love Open the Door" went Top 5 and joined the fantastic "Rough Boys" and the grandiose "Little Is Enough" as FM rock eternals; "I Am an Animal" deserves to be on that list as well. As usual, Townshend's sublime rhythm guitar work puts most lead soloists to shame.
