A Good Sadness
MGMT

While Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden would have you believe their third album is their weirdest, wackiest, least compromising effort yet, it's actually rather soothing. "Mystery Disease" combines pointed Frank Zappa-styled vocals with phasey shoegaze synths, early Aphex Twin drums, and some spaghetti western guitar for garnish. MGMT crucially builds a groove where the previous, Congratulations, refused; the last one was fussy prog suites like Ummagumma, while this one is darker and more muted like Animals. They even sneak in a pop song with "Introspection."
