After the breakup of 3rd Bass, MC Serch tried to go solo with Return of the Product. Despite awareness of his whiteness in a black-dominated culture, a topic he airs on "Social Narcotics" and "Hard but True," he couldn't keep up with the fast rap style overtaking the East Coast, and filled his songs with awful lines like "Daze in a Weak"'s "You try to see this, you're better putting on stilts, son." He proved more effective behind the scenes as an early manager of teen phenom Nas, who gets a verse along with Chubb Rock and Red Hot Lover Tone on the underground hit "Back to the Grill."
