Label: Neon Gold / Elektra
There's a formula here -- melodramatic opening chords giving way to drum kicks as the Welsh/Greek vocalist mulls over feelings of guilt, regret and melancholia. And it's not a bad formula, even if one wishes for more sonic variety. Still, anybody anticipating more upbeat electro-hustle in the vein of lead single "Froot" will be slightly disappointed, so watch for the fun stuff, like "Better Than That," a catty retro number reminiscent of Blondie circa 1976. Or how Marina lays it all out in (purposefully?) broken English on "Blue": "Give me love, give me dreams, give me a good self-esteem."
