Life on a Rock
Label: Blue Chair Records
The escapist's escapist, Kenny Chesney has always preferred the beach to the boulevard, and Life on a Rock shows no signs of change. Where "When I See This Bar" (the one with bongos) tells the story of a resort watering hole, "Marley" (the one with both bongos and steel drums) finds our man on a boat listening to reggae. "Spread the Love," meanwhile, actually is reggae, with Bob's old backing band along for the ride. But the intimate slow ones, tracks like "Where I Grew Up" and "There Goes My Life" that made past albums more than just island getaways? They must have gone out with the tide.
