Journey's fourth overall album but their first with Steve Perry, Infinity marks the beginning of the super-slick production, wall of backing harmonies and high-flying lead vocals associated with the band. Their previous three records had followed a strong prog rock tack, but here the blueprints for AOR are laid. "Lights," "Anytime" and "Wheel in the Sky" are all songs anyone who has ever turned on a classic rock radio station has heard -- and for good reason. Guitarist Neal Schon's playing is downright tough, as the piles of synthesizers that mark their later work take a backseat here.
