The elements that are mixed together on James Pants' debut evidence big ears, mining '80s synth, soul, disco and electrofunk grooves. It twinkles with a pop sheen and a goofball's sense of humor. "I Choose You" might be the most chipper of the bunch, and Deon Davis' guest spot on "Crystal Lite" makes it a loping standout. The album's fun and savvy '80s-minded grooves are knowing enough to avoid the pitfalls of retro schlockiness, even if just by an inch.
