Mighty Hawkwind Classics 1980-1985
Label: Anagram Records
"Sweet Mistress of Pain" and "Hurry On Sundown" may not point to the far-flung influence this band would eventually have, but they do show the group's roots as a very capable rock band. The Lemmy Kilmister-penned "Motorhead," from 1975, is a major highlight, but it's often difficult to hear Hawkwind's '80s material without noticing that they were taking cues (from Kiss no less) more than they were giving any. Still, no matter what this band does, it seems unable to produce music that is not at least weird. Try to enjoy "Dream Dancers."
