Alan Wilder joined Depeche Mode in time to record this 1983 album, solidifying the lineup that would carry the group into mega-success. Martin Gore's increasingly strong (and often excessively dramatic) songwriting also takes off here. On the fluid and colorful "Love In Itself," Depeche find their niche; on "Everything Counts" they define it.
