Unlike past Nail albums, both of which had room for piano compositions like "Sound of a Million Dreams," I'm a Fire is dominated by the sort of compressed guitar that helped make lead single "Whatever She's Got" his second airplay chart-topper. On tracks like "Kiss You Tonight" and the Brandy Clark-penned "Burnin' Bed," the formula works. But Little Big Town jam "When They're Gone," a Lady Antebellum-esque recollection of young love, is a welcome exception regardless. Another: the faithful cover of Glenn Campbell's "Galveston" that closes the collection.
