Released in 1999, Ravishing Grimness features Darkthrone in the waning years of their black-metal style. While the elements that made them famous (pure evil vocals, sheets of hyper-picked guitars) remain, there are the stirrings of the thrash-punk changes to come in "The Beast" and the intro to closer "To the Death (Under the King)." Darkthrone proved themselves one of the most resilient bands to come out of the infamous Norwegian scene with this seventh album. Not only did they still have relevant black metal in them, they were still years away from totally reinventing their sound.
