Hooking up with Jeff Lynne was a shrewd move for Bryan Adams. Despite a career marked by too many forays into adult contemporary schmaltz, he ultimately is a rocker dude, and the legendary producer helps remind him that this indeed is the case. Featuring a mix of twangy heartland rockers and richly layered power pop, Get Up! has to be Adams’ most satisfying record in 30 years (since Reckless, quite honestly). The record’s coolest cuts -- “Thunderbolt,” “Do What Ya Gotta Do” and “Don’t Even Try” -- sound like Adams fronting Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra. It’s a unique approach.
