This young Jamaican emcee first broke out when he was performing alongside T.O.K. in the Cayman Islands in 2001: the crowd liked him so much he was spontaneously crowned the island's mayor for a day. The gesture was symbolic, but it proved what friends who'd given Assassin his stage name already knew: the guy has a commanding stage presence and can demolish his competition at will. Born Jeffrey Campbell in Papine, Jamaica, Assassin got his first break when Spragga Benz noticed his talent and took him under his wing. His first single, "Name Brand," didn't do much, but subsequent releases like 1999's "How We Roll" and "To Make Money" forced Jamaican audiences to sit up and take notice. He released his international debut, the aptly named Infiltration, in 2005.
