Theme from New York, New York
Label: Frank Sinatra Enterprises
This was originally a three-disc set, with each platter encompassing the past (the great songs), the present (soft rock) and the future (a bizarre Gordon Jenkins-helmed EZ-opera about Sinatra and his pals splitting Earth before we humans destroy it ourselves). Stick with the first set -- it's got smoking Billy May swing charts and definitive readings of "It Had to Be You" and "More Than You Know." The "present" set at least contains Sinatra's last hit single, "New York, New York," and an effective swing version of a Billy Joel ballad. The "future" one is worth hearing -- but maybe just ot prove to yourself that it actually exists.
