"Hold Your Head Up" is the hit, but "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" is where everything came together for this band. A truly distinctive mixture of Mellotron prog, Bowie-level majesty and a can't-play-it-loud-enough chorus, you can almost draw a straight line from here to Guided By Voices (circa Propeller). It's just too bad all anyone knows is the KISS cover. The same goes for "Losing Hold." You can practically see Robert Pollard jumping on his bed during the coda. Argent may not have sold many records, but they are an important link between classic and indie rock.
