When God Paints
Label: ALAN JACKSON - THIRTY MILES WEST
On opening track "You Can Always Come Home," Jackson sounds very much like the wise father, encouraging his children to "spread your wings, don't be afraid to try," while reminding them they can "always come home." Similarly, "Flaws," is a gentle reminder that our flaws are what make us special and unique. Lyrically, it's a bit home-spun, but it's accentuated by some fine finger picking and fiddle runs. Meanwhile, "Gone Before You Met Me" turns more personal, as he recounts a dream where he rafts with Tom Sawyer and road-trips with Jack Kerouac. Other standouts include the beautiful "When God Paints" and the upbeat "Mexico, Tequila and Me."
